Five years after the worst oil spill in U.S. history, the federal case determining how much BP has to pay for its negligence at Deepwater Horizon is coming to a close. In advance of the final decision, 约炮视频鈥檚 President and CEO David Yarnold lays out what the oil giant owes to the Gulf Coast in an op-ed published in Roll Call.
Yarnold writes:
鈥淚t鈥檚 time to hold BP accountable for the environmental damage it continues to cause the wildlife and people of the Gulf Coast. The Gulf Coast鈥檚 way of life is a rich stew, a place that鈥檚 uniquely American, where drilling and shrimping go hand-in-hand. But we also know whether you鈥檙e talking about a curfew for your kids or creating a safe construction site, there have to be consequences when rules are blatantly ignored. America鈥檚 laws acknowledge that deep sea drilling is risky business that requires extraordinary safety measures 鈥 and that鈥檚 why there are penalties for lawbreakers.鈥
